The storyteller
Once upon a time, in a kingdom placed so far away that almost everyone forgot it even existed, there was a storyteller. This storyteller was so good, that every story that he would tell would become reality.
At first, when he was young, he was telling short stories, some of them were interesting, some of them were boring, but all of them were short, harmless. He needed to learn how to control his gift, he wanted to go slowly, experiment a bit, so he would tell stories about a small house in the forest, or about small floods of rivers in the mountains. Something that would ease his need to tell a story, and at the same time, be completely innocent.
After a while, as he got older, he got bored, started telling stories about battles, mythical creatures, dragons with 3 heads, and as the time passed his attention to detail became bolder and more and more vivid. Slowly but surely, people started talking about this great storyteller who was able to create everything just by playing with words - anything from a large supper up to a herd of lions.
This talent of his, tickled the ears of their king, and the king invited him to his court. The storyteller heard about their king, just like everyone in the kingdom has. He was a vile creature, poisoned by a wish to rule, selfish and rotten to the core of his bones, feared by his people. He didn't frighten the storyteller though, and the storyteller decided to take upon the king's offer and join him at his court.
So the storyteller went to the king's castle, and just as the storyteller thought, the king invited him to the court with a concrete proposition: the king wanted the storyteller to tell him stories that the king wanted to hear. He wanted him to to tell stories about king's bravery and intelligence, about him winning battles and about the demise of his enemies. All of the king's minions gathered around and started adding to the request: "Tell us a story about how we are winning battles all around the world. Describe us as the strongest men and women that ever walked the earth". They wanted him to lie, just so that it all becomes true. The king offered to pay the storyteller handsomely, but that did not matter to him. And just as he was about to refuse his offer, the king called upon his protege -a girl of stunning beauty.
"Bring us some wine, lady Lyanna", the king said.
Lyanna was her name, and there was something about her that made the storyteller change his mind.
So the storyteller decided to stay at the court for a while.
He spent a lot of time with Lyanna, he trusted her, and tried to always have her back.He protected her from the king's evil mind and his fury. In the time to come, he was telling all sorts of stories, and the kingdom grew, got stronger and bigger, and the name of the king became more and more famous in all of the distant kingdoms. With that, the king became even more selfish and blinded by power.Forgetting who was the one bringing him his fame and glory in the first place, he started turning against the storyteller.
The storyteller on the other hand, started realizing that he does not have to listen to the king anymore. So he started telling stories about himself being rich. Then he told a story about himself being famous in all the distant kingdoms. And then he told a story about him being the king, and Lyanna being his protege and not the king's.
Then he took over the throne. Then he lost everything.
His wealth, was constantly getting smaller, as he was spending it to make the life of his people better and easier. Even then, there were some of his people, old king's minions, talking about him as being evil and cruel. Other kings were jealous of him having the power he had, so his kingdom was in a constant danger. And Lyanna.... she decided that she was better off when the old king was in power, forgetting the time they spent together.
He understood that whatever he tells in his story, whatever may be the way he changes the world around him, however good he may be, he will never be able to change the people around him, and hide what they truly are. He understood that there is no story that can hide the human soul if the soul is broken.
With all the wealth, all the things he had and owned, at the end, the storyteller was unhappy. He was able to turn his life into anything he wanted, all he needed to do was to tell a story, but, he was not happy.
That is when the storyteller decided to live his life as it is. No stories, but pure, cruel, cold reality.
He decided to leave the kingdom, and never return.
He never told another story. Ever again.
