The story of four seconds

A second passes, and the world is not the same any more.

Second 1:
Jack saw Jill for the first time in that moment, and he fell for her right then and right there,in the midst of Central Park in NY.It was one of those moments when a second seemed like a lifetime, and a lifetime it was.

A drop of rain fell swiftly in a split of that same second and landed directly into Steve's right eye. Clumsily, he dropped a bouquet of flowers he was holding and at the same time he understood he will have to go to the florest again and get another one.It seemed that London would have another rainy day.

The arrow went straight into the bulls-eye with a dull but very distinctive thud, precise and inevitable. Sun Yoo knew, in that same second, as soon as she has released the arrow, that the gold medal in the regional archery competition of Seul, S. Korea, will be hers.

Second 2:
Yvonne was watching down over the narrow streets of Montmartre. She remembered her mother and how she used to take her on one of those strolls where time seemed to stop,or at least seemed as if it had taken a longer coffee break. A sudden rush of sadness overtook her, opening that old shallowness that people have in their chest when they miss someone.

The water was rushing toward Carmelo with a mind blowing speed, and in the following split of a second he splashed into the sea.The water near Isola Bella, Sicilia was amazingly warm, but the jump from a 15 meters high rift filled him with the adrenalin rush he never felt before.Time had no meaning for him at that point, cause he felt as if nothing existed but him, the sea and his frantically beating heart.

13 year old Shukran's heart on the other hand, almost stopped when she saw a granade blowing up at the second floor of her family house in the Mount Simeon district in Aleppo, Syria. Her father was inside, and at that second she knew he was dead.At that second, she knew that her childhood died with him as well. She turned and run away.

Second 3:

The sudden warmth lieutenant Haglud felt was unnatural for the -15 degrees of the Stockholm's winter, but he understood that it was from a hot bullet that just entered his right shoulder. He fell on the ground, the thieves he was after, have run away, and the only thing he could think of was that the help will come soon and that he needs to hold on and be strong for the sake of his two sons.

Azani gave out one of her famous smiles, as soon as she hit enter on one of the computers in the UNIKIN - Kinshasa's university. Her first programmed Android application compiled with success, and the creator's rush overtook her the same second. Millions of electrons running through the computers circuitry, millions of operations executed in a split of a second, millions of electronic impulses lighting up Azani's sharp young mind, all resulting in a mixture of pride and happiness.

Happiness could not begin to describe what Konor felt when he heard his baby boy cry for the first time. It was a babies cry, like any other, but in that second, it was what made Konor the happiest Irishman in the world.

Second 4:

Lives are created and destroyed. Worlds collide and fall apart. Whole universes found their center, and imploded right into it.And not even a second passed. A whole eternity passed.

With the passing of time, all the certainty and linearity seems more and more vague. The concept of continuity of events seems to lose reason when you understand that things usually end up looped in a cycle as they get back to the point from where they have started. One single second witnessing death on one hand and birth on the other, witnessing laughter and tears, black and white. It is actually all about the context and the way we look at what time brings and how the time passes. A single most beautiful event lasts just a second and we want it to last for a whole eternity,a single most painful event lasts for eternity, although it lasted for just a second.Nothing is certain anymore, not even that fifth second that is about to tick after the fourth second finishes. That is IF, and WHEN it finishes.

Time is just numbers with meaning attached to them.
It is up to us to find what that meaning is.
