The absence of light
Sometimes it is nice to sit in the dark, don't you think so? You get to relax a bit. No judgmental looks, no bright lights coming from freshly polished cars bought by the tears of crying kids waiting for their fathers to come home. No fancy dolls covered with make up, with their fancy phones, and with their air-kissing clearly displaying the disgust of mutual contact. No plastic, no fakes that cause that vomiting response in your belly for which at that moment you just can't pinpoint the reason why do you actually feel that. You don't need to look at the 100 year old creep in the suit, trying to blackmail a 25 year old secretary to go with him to a business trip. You don't witness those packs of animals devouring the socially awkward kid in the group, you don't get to see the asshole shit all over the people around him. No sharp smiles, fueled by sarcasm, smirking at you as if their hearts pump blood only for you, while actually all they are happy about is that your appearance gave them one subject more to gossip about, and with that add another useless and mundane object in their already useless and mundane lives.
"Let's get together some time, for a coffee, K? Ima call you, bro. We're friends, or what?" No. No you won't. And no, we are not. That is just one of the last reflexes of your tied up and deeply buried humanity trying to resurface, but you won't let that happen won't you? That's the reaction of some of your still functional synapses understanding that your attitude, and what you're doing to your "friend" is wrong, feeling the guilt, and poking you from the inside, but you are choosing to ignore it, aren't you? I don't need to see that. Life is too short for that kind of cruelty.
Who would imagine that, huh? The very subject of everything wrong in the movies....the darkness. Coming and saving you from all that. The absence of light with it's calming nothingness, like Paganini's fingers to the strings of a violin, giving you a peace of mind and chunks of fueling energy to your soul. It's in the human nature to fear from what they can't see, while, I'm afraid, what people should be afraid of, is some of the things they see every day. So don't be afraid. Turn off the lights and close your eyes. Instead of looking out, try to take a look into yourselves. The darkness won't bite. It will just give you a better chance to see your dreams, while protecting you from all of that masked cruelty.
